Microsoft researchers have introduced Visual ChatGPT, a conversational model that incorporates various Visual Foundation Models (VFMs) to handle complex visual tasks. Visual ChatGPT is built on the large language model, ChatGPT, and incorporates a Prompt Manager that explicitly tells ChatGPT the capability of each VFM and converts visual information to language format. The system enables users to interact with ChatGPT to generate and edit complex visual content.

Silicon Valley Bank, a key player in the tech and venture capital community, has been shut down by financial regulators and its deposits taken over, making it the largest U.S. bank failure since the global financial crisis. Insured depositors will have access to their deposits no later than Monday morning, and the FDIC's standard insurance covers up to $250,000 per depositor, per bank, for each account ownership category. The collapse of SVB has left companies and wealthy individuals unsure of what will happen to their money.

MIT Professor Aleksander Mądry testified before the House Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation and urged lawmakers to ask tough questions about how corporations use AI tools. He cautioned against leaving the path of artificial intelligence solely to big tech and called for the government to regulate AI, explaining that it is an important tool to ensure AI aligns with society's goals. Mądry highlighted three overarching points: AI brings enormous benefits but also poses risks, AI tools expose us to interactions that go against our intuition, and too little attention has been paid to problems that will result from the nature of the AI supply chain. Mądry urged Congress to probe AI issues and to be prepared to act, saying that "we are at an inflection point in terms of what future AI will bring."

OpenAI has already started working with enterprise customers to train models in specific domains which reduces incorrect responses. Coca-Cola is one such company using ChatGPT and DALL-E technologies to create personalized ad copy, images, and messaging. OpenAI plans to give users more control over how ChatGPT works to customize the AI and reduce biases. Altman expects that AI-powered applications, including AI doctors and lawyers, will become more common in the near future.

Discord is set to roll out a new feature to its Clyde chatbot next week, using ChatGPT technology to enable assistant-style functionality. Clyde will be available to a select number of servers with Discord alpha users. Users can ask it to start a thread for a group of friends to hang out, recommend playlists, access GIFs, and more. However, the company warns users not to rely on Clyde for advice, Discord support, or safety issues. It is aware of the potential for its ChatGPT-based chatbot to go down a similar road as Bing Chat and recommends caution. Discord is also rolling out AutoMod AI and AI-generated conversation summaries, leveraging OpenAI technology.

The billionaire founder of Citadel and Citadel Securities said that ChatGPT has "real impact on our business" and can help with everything from improving software development to analyzing different types of data. While it's unclear how Citadel will use ChatGPT, Griffin said that it will help to automate an enormous amount of work currently done by people.

Humane Inc, a startup founded by former Apple executives, has raised $100 million in a new investment round and secured partnerships with OpenAI and Microsoft. Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, the husband and wife co-founders, plan to launch a product this spring that incorporates artificial intelligence into a consumer device. While the company has not disclosed what it plans to sell, published patents suggest it will be a wearable device that projects a display with which users can interact. The investment round was led by Kindred Ventures and included participation from Microsoft, among others. The company had previously raised two rounds of financing totalling $130 million. Humane plans to integrate OpenAI’s AI technology into its device, while also partnering with Microsoft to power Humane’s cloud services. This fundraising announcement comes at a time of high investor interest in artificial intelligence startups.
